The Standard Method of Measurement for Building Works (‘SMM’) was a list of measurement rules for quantity surveyors first published by the RICS in 1922. The latest and last edition was SMM7, published in 1988.
SMM7 has been replaced by the RICS new rules of measurement: Detailed measurement for building works (‘NRM 2’).
It is very important to anyone that is preparing a budget or a pricing document (like a bill of quantities) to ensure that they follow a logical sequence such as laid out in the NRM2.
This ensures that the document can be created efficiently whilst also reducing the number of mistakes and/or omissions.
It also allows other professionals to easily follow your document and check the document for errors.
The less errors and omissions in the budget or pricing document, the easier the work on site is.
