The measurement initiative steering group was a group established by the RICS quantity surveying and construction professional group to investigate any existing issues with the measurement of building construction works throughout the complete stages of the design and construction process.
This steering group recommended several changes to the existing process of measuring construction works.
In January 2013 their new method of measurement, the ‘New Rules of Measurement’ suite of documents came into effect. These documents establish the updated rules for the measurement and description of a construction project from ‘cradle to grave’ e.g. from initial concept to completion and maintenance of the property.
